Why do I like what I like?

By far, my favorite genre is psychological thrillers and stalking films. I love the element of gaslighting the viewer into second guessing the actions of the characters. I like stalking films because I feel like they really dive into the mindset of the character, and why they conduct their actions. I think these two genres go hand in hand because there is a heavy psychological factor in stalking films because it aims to make the watcher feel that the actions of the characters are justified.

I plan on working in this genre for my film project, but also dabbling into others such as comedy. Some inspirations are Joker and You. I feel like these movies really incorporate a sense of humor into the psychological aspects of it.

Joker has toxic fans. Does that mean the movie shouldn't exist? - Vox

You opening scene

This is the opening scene from you. It starts by analyzing the girl walking in. It is a tracking shot of the girl walking, and it is moving from top to bottom as the narrator is describing her. It has a shot of Joe, the narrators back looking through the glass at her. This helps introduce the two main characters right at the beginning of the scene. It is in slow motion as the camera has jump cuts to the different features of her such as her bracelets, hair, etc. The narration of Joe at the beginning helps reveal more about his character, and also the girl walking because he is analyzing her, It goes right into the part in which they interact one-on-one. The whole time, the intent and thoughts of Joe can be heard. Although he is very creepy, it is portrayed in an almost funny way, which I feel like helps captivate the watcher, and displays the overall mindset of a stalker.
