Sweading Project

I have been working in a team these past two weeks to do a sweding project. Sweded scenes are parodies of blockbuster films that are remade using household and handmade items. We decided to recreate a scene from E.T. a popular science fiction film released in 1982 by Steven Spielberg. The scene we are recreating is below.

We chose this film and scene because it would be able to be reproduced using household items, and would be recognizable, Steven Spielberg is also a renowned director, and we could learn about how he films his scenes and be inspired for our own film projects.

The first part of the process was deciding the location and creating the supplies we need to film. Finding the location of the film was the hardest part because we do not have access to the exact closet that they used in the scene. We were able to work around different parts by creating the same idea, but making it look a little different in order to create the same look. One example of working around these problems is shown below.

Creating the supplies was arguably the easiest part of the process. We decided to make a cardboard cutout of E.T. to be used in the shot. This was done by watching a video on how to draw him, and drawing it on a larger scale to be included in our film.

E.T. Cutout

Lastly, one of the hardest parts of filming is the angle. E.T is filmed from the perspective on E.T which is a bit smaller than the other characters. This posed a problem because the casting of Elliot (the boy), because they need to be able to fit the frame that is shot from that angle.
