Blog Introduction!

Hello! I am back for AICE Media Studies A level. I am now a senior in high school and I look forward to graduate. I have learned so much last year about film and the film process that will me significantly aid in this years film endeavors.

1.  What were some of the important lessons you learned last year about the process of producing media?  What was harder than you thought?  Easier than you thought?

-     One of the most important lessons that I learned last year is the importance of editing, and establishing a detailed screenplay prior to filming. This was important because this really can make or break the entire film. When I had to create my music video for my project in AICE media AS level, I did not make my screenplay as specific as I should have. If I had went into more detail with the actor direction, and how to structure my environment, then I believe the whole filming process would have been much easier.

As mentioned, editing is also such an important part of producing media. I spent hours going through the raw footage and selecting parts I wanted to keep. This part of the process was  much harder than I thought it would be. It took some time to get used to the software, and figure out how to do various actions within the interface, but, once I got the hang of it, it came to be on of the most enjoying parts of the process. I think one of the easier parts was figuring out the theme and story behind the projects during the class. I genuinely found this part quite fun, and enjoyed doing it.

2.  What are some of the important social issues being reflected in our media today?  (Make sure you provide examples and explain how those examples reflect a social issue(s) of the day.

- Some of the most important social issues being reflected in media today I believe are topics like misrepresentation, and mental health. Just in the past few years, large corporations like Disney have started to introduce more cultures and ethnicities into their movie and shows. The movie Raya came out in 2021, and is based on southeast cultures. This is the first Disney movie to be based on this culture.

Film for a majority of time has been dominated by certain ethnicities and certain stereotypes. Media has grown out of the previous narrative, and have started to reflect these social issues and topics.  Mental health is another social issue I feel is being reflected in media today. In the new movie Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, mental health topics like depression were talked about, which shows the important social issues being reflected.
