"Nosedive" Marketing

 Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog!

In media studies, we have been researching how compnies market their films to consumers. To practice this, we are creating a marketing campaign for the episode "Nosedive" from Black Mirror. Black Mirror consists of many episodes in which different messages are displayed through unique stories. Each episode is independent of each other, so we decided to treat the episode like it is a stand-alone movie!

Lobby Card

Lobby cards are small posters used to display movies. Although lobby cards are not prevalent in their original paper format, marketers spread lobby cards on social media in order to increase the audience of a movie. When constructing a lobby card, I took inspiration from more horror-themed films. I wanted to evoke a dark feeling that would juxtapose the very bright introduction and help to communicate a message about the movie. Below are some of the lobby cards I used as inspiration. 



Below is the lobby card that I created. I wanted to highlight the word "dive" because I feel it is symbolic of the progression of the episode and the actions that the character takes. I also wanted to use a black background to make the text pop, and to evoke a more sinister feeling, 



Social Media

To spread the lobby card and market the movie, I utilize Instagram. The approach to take in marketing is to keep the audience engaged. This is done by posting clips and intriguing pictures daily. This approach helps to get more engagement and keep followers.
