Media Theories in my Film
Welcome back to my blog!
We are back on on the topic of media theories, but this time, we are focusing on my film, and what theories that are portrayed in it.
The theory that I feel my film best portrays is .the Reception Theory. The reception theory suggests that audiences engage with media in a more analytical way, challenging some elements of the presented media while accepting others. The theory states that life experiences and prior knowledge are always being applied when people interpret new media texts.
I feel that my film represents this because of the more controversial character that I depict. She has many outlandish views, that many people do not agree with. Because of this, I do feel that the audience analyzes her, and her actions more, and agree with some, but maybe not others. People who have a more positive outlook on situations and life might strongly disagree with my characters love for evil, and how it is the better ideology to have. But people who are more cynical might. I would say that the part of my film that best represents this is the narration part in the beginning when she is getting ready. She reveals factors about herself that are up for debate in terms of being agreeable.
Another theory that I feel also represent this is the postmodernist theory. My film shows this through the use of the narration, in which the main character is talking to the audience. This is more of a modern idea, because it is breaking the traditional rules of film, and is not particularly seen in most films. In addition, I also believe that my film subverts from the mainstream conventions, and characterization. With the introduction of a character that is female, and also one that breaks the normal female stereotypes, these blend together in order to show how my film is postmodernist.
